Recently, at the invitation of Federation of Associations of Cultural Sectors of Macau, Prof. Dai Dingcheng of the Faculty of Innovation and Design held a lecture on “Macau's Musical Tradition and Cultural Innovation in the Greater Bay Area” at the Macao Science Centre, with representatives of the Executive Vice-President Mr. Wang Boxun, Associate Professor Mr. Xie Shengming, and Director Mr. Gu Jie attending the event, which was moderated by the Vice-President and the Director of the Specialized Committee of Musicians of the Federation of Associations of Cultural Sectors of Macau Mr. Zhou You.
Nearly a hundred people attended the lecture, including local social and cultural elites, music professionals, representatives of cultural organizations, academic researchers from other places who came to Macau specifically, as well as teachers and students from local universities and many music culture enthusiasts.
Professor Dai is an specialist in the area of Early European Music. After coming to Macau, he has been deeply involved in Macau's music culture for many years, focusing on the research and development of Macau's urban music and local intangible cultural heritage. He has published multiple monographs and academic papers.
Based on his years of research experience and field research results in Macau, Professor Dai has sorted out the development of Macau's music from religion to secularism, from classics to folk music. Through a large number of detailed local folk music cases in Macau, he has presented a multidimensional, diverse, and vivid picture of Macau's music to the audience through text, images, videos, music, and explanations.
The lecture was rich in content and vivid in case studies, which resonated strongly with the audience present. It closely adhered to the main theme of the integration and dialectical relationship between tradition and innovation, history and the present. It not only broadened the academic perspective of music research, but also provided valuable ideas and reference significance for the further development and innovation of Macau music in the context of the Greater Bay Area.
