FIAD has established the Human Factors Engineering and Intelligent Interaction Research Center (Hengqin) and the Intelligent Perception and Human–Computer Interaction Laboratory. Guided by the core philosophy of human-centered design, intelligent integration, and cross-disciplinary innovation, the Center focuses on integrative research and applied practice within human–technology–environment systems. It is committed to integrating human factors engineering, design science, and emerging intelligent technologies to address the rapidly evolving smart society and increasingly complex human needs.
The Laboratory's research directions encompass intelligent interaction and smart products; human-centered safety, comfort, and well-being; design science and human factors engineering; human factors data and intelligent design; therapeutic rehabilitation and social design; as well as art, technology, and digital media. Through interdisciplinary research approaches, the Laboratory integrates theoretical studies, experimental validation, and design practice to explore innovative, human-centered solutions. Emphasizing data-driven and intelligent design methodologies, it combines artificial intelligence, sensing technologies, and digital media to advance human factors optimization and innovative applications across domains including smart products, public spaces, healthcare, and social services. At the same time, the Center places strong emphasis on human well-being, physical and mental healing, and social care, highlighting the role of design in enhancing quality of life and societal value.
Based in Hengqin, connected to the Greater Bay Area, and oriented toward global collaboration, the Human Factors Engineering and Intelligent Interaction Research Center (Hengqin) aspires to become a leading platform for research, innovation, and exchange in human-centered innovation and intelligent design, fostering academic advancement, industry translation, and sustainable social development.
