Master of Fine Arts

Program Overview

Background and Features

Macau is situated in a hotspot for global and Chinese culture and economy, making the development of the cultural and artistic industry a natural trend in line with global currents. Under the central government’s policy guidance for the moderate diversification of Macau’s economy, the local government has recently focused on developing cultural and artistic initiatives within Macau's diverse cultural background. As a local education institution, we aim to promote aesthetic education, cultivate cultural awareness, and fulfill social responsibilities during this transformative period. This effort is to establish and improve the training system for specialized artistic talents in Macau, promote artistic creation, guide art appreciation, and nurture high-level, application-oriented professionals in the arts and arts education research that meet the needs of society, economy, culture, and the arts. Therefore, the Social Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau government has approved the establishment of the Master’s Degree Program in Arts. This program has a strong practical application, and graduates will have broad employment prospects.

The Master’s program at the City University of Macau includes specialized areas such as the study of Chinese painting and calligraphy engraving, and research in art education. This curriculum is designed to meet the cultural and artistic needs of Macau, filling a long-term gap in the education, academic research, and professional development of the cultural and artistic industry. The courses emphasize a balance between theoretical knowledge and artistic practice, professional education and quality education, as well as foundational skills and innovative abilities. This approach aims to cultivate professionals with a solid foundation in arts, comprehensive knowledge, significant art appreciation skills, research capabilities, and a broad artistic perspective combined with innovative ideas.

Objectives

The program aims to enhance graduate education through a broad artistic vision and advanced artistic concepts, training high-quality artistic talents who are rooted in Macau while aligning with the international development of modern art.
