The Research Centre for Arts Education of City University of Macau (RCAE) offers Master & Doctor of Philosophy in Arts Studies Programmes and General Education in Arts for all undergraduates of the university, and also organizes a variety of art practicums, series of lectures on humanistic art, and art exhibitions of famous artists.

Master of Philosophy in Arts Studies Programme focuses on two research areas: Research on Chinese Painting, Calligraphy and Seal Cutting, and Art Education. The main courses include History of Chinese Art, Research on Creation of Chinese Painting, Research on Creation of Chinese Calligraphy and Seal Cutting, etc.

Doctor of Philosophy in Arts Studies Programme focuses on three research areas: Research on Chinese Art History and Painting Theory, Art Education, and Chinese Music History. The main courses include Theoretical Study of Art, The Study of Chinese Art History and Chinese Painting Theory, Art Education Theory and Practice, and History of Chinese Music.

The Centre actively explores new modes of art education in the comprehensive university: focusing on arts theories and arts history, and also exploring the basic theories of western and eastern arts, aesthetic, and art critique; forming research teams comprised of distinguished and part-time researchers, publishing influential and high-quality academic papers and monographs so as to contribute to the development of creative industry in Macau. The Centre also hosts activities of “fine arts in university” by inviting remarkable artistic organizations to perform and holding exhibitions at the school, all of which open to the public. The Centre will continually strive to be a leading academic platform of arts education, arts research and cultural creation in Macau.
