Associate Professor Liu Haiping, the Faculty of Innovation and Design, the City University of Macau, recently be invited by two famous Chinese Universities to Shenyang city, Liao-ning province. She gave two Art History lectures in Northeastern University (985, 211, Double first class), Arts College, and Luxun Academy of Fine Arts (Lafa, one of eight major Chinese Art Academies), Humanities School, to introduce her two new research.
June 3, 2025, 14:00-16:00, the first lecture held in Northeastern University, Arts College: “ Outside and Inside, Male and Female: Who is Lucrezia? -- A Study of Italian Renaissance fresco Nativity of the Virgin”. She explained this early 16th century masterpiece fresco by Andrea del Sarto, analyzed the time and method of the artistic creation, the composition and space, movement and direction, gender and identity in the fresco. She also solved the mystery of image of Lucrezia, the artist’s wife, which existed in the fresco but unknown for long time.
Associate Professor, PhD supervisor Fan Qiang-qiang, Associate Dean of the Arts College, Northeastern University, and Distinguished Associate Professor Edoardo Villata were the invitee and attended the lecture. Professor Villata was the academic host of the lecture. After the lecture, Prof. Liu Haiping, the faculty and PhD and master students of the Arts College, together with attending other university faculty member and student, had a rich and deep discussion, a group photo be taken.
June 3, 18:00-20:00, Prof. Liu Haiping gave the second lecture: “Contemporary Challenges of Historical Painting” in the Humanities School, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts(Lafa). Professor Li Lin, Dean of the Humanities School was the academic host of this lecture. Director of Art History Department, Associate Professor Wang Me-lin, Associate Professor Han Liang, and master and undergraduate students of Humanities School attended the lecture. Professor Xie Yong, Dean of Shenyang University Fine Arts College, and Vice Chairman of Liaoning Provincial Artists Association also attended the lecture.
Prof. Liu Haiping in the lecture compared the definitions of historical painting in Europe and China. She analyzed the development of historical painting in China and the West, pointed out the special achievements and characteristics of modern Chinese historical paintings. She suggested the possible methods and approaches to realize “historical authenticity” by image-creation in contemporary historical painting, and discussed the challenges and new opportunities for historical painting today.
After the lecture, Prof. Liu Haiping, attending professors, master and undergraduate students of the Humanities School had active and inspired academic discussion and communication, took a group photo.
The two lectures were successfully held, within strong academic atmosphere, attendance of experts and professors from multiple universities, commitment of undergraduate, master and doctoral students, particularly active and deep academic discussion among professors and students. The two academic events were good exchange among different university faculties, enhanced the academic influence of the City University of Macau. After both lectures, Prof. Liu Haiping introduced the majors and enrollment of Faculty of Innovation and Design, the City University of Macau, which aroused strong interest and attention of present students.
