On October 20, our institute's master's and doctoral students, led by Assistant Professor Liu Jing, were invited to participate in a series of activities aimed at promoting the deep integration and development of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and the fashion industry, themed "Inheriting the East: The Pulse of Fashion." This event aims to foster a deep integration of ICH and the fashion industry, assisting in the quality upgrade of Macau's fashion sector. The event gathered over 200 experts, industry professionals, and young students from Mainland China and the Hong Kong and Macau regions.
Ms. Pansy Ho, Chairwoman of MGM China Holdings Limited, expressed that this event is an innovative combination of outstanding traditional Chinese culture and fashion, anticipating the use of fashion as a universal language to deepen exchanges among academia, the fashion industry, and the business sector.
In the first panel discussion, Professor Xiao Wenling from Tsinghua University's Academy of Arts and Design, Professor Guo Ruiping from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, and internationally renowned fashion designer Lawrence Xu discussed the theme of "Fashion Expression of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Its Industrial Development," providing valuable perspectives and inspiration for young designers.
During the workshop sessions, students participated in a series of activities including "Deconstruction: Couture Gown Patterns," "Craftsmanship: Patterns and Embroidery Techniques," and "Style: Stepping into the World of Makeup and Hair on Stage." The practical results of the three workshops culminated in a live fashion show, showcasing multiple outfits that blended Eastern and Western cultural elements.
This event not only enriched the students' learning experiences but also promoted innovative development in the integration of ICH and the fashion industry, adding new vitality to the dissemination of Macau's multiculturalism.
