Huang Jing, a 2025 doctoral student in Art Studies (The Study of Chinese Music History) at our university's Faculty of Innovation and Design and a provincial representative inheritor of Banggu Dong, has seen her quyi (Chinese folk vocal art) work Banggu Dong: A-Shi Advises Her Husband shortlisted for the re-evaluation stage in the Quyi category of the 20th "Star Award". It is one of only four works from Fujian Province to advance in this category.

The "Star Award", the highest government prize in China's mass culture and arts sector, is awarded every three years and represents the pinnacle of mass artistic creation in the country. The competition of this edition was fierce. The fact that A-Shi Advises Her Husband, created and submitted by student Huang Jing, stood out among numerous outstanding works fully demonstrates its artistic value and innovative standard.

A-Shi Advises Her Husband is a modern work based on the traditional Fujian quyi form "Banggu Dong". The plot unfolds from the daily life of ordinary people, centering on A-Shi continuously advising her husband from the perspective of "gaining wealth through righteousness and maintaining family harmony". This drives A-Niu's gradual spiritual transformation from a "stubborn mule" to a "wise ox", returning to the right path for his family. While preserving the essence of traditional performance, the work incorporates a contemporary narrative perspective, showcasing the emotional resonance and educational significance of intangible cultural heritage in modern life.

Huang Jing is currently a doctoral student in Art Studies (The Study of Chinese Music History), under the supervision of Professor Dai Dingcheng. The shortlisting of A-Shi Advises Her Husband for the "Star Award" re-evaluation is not only a recognition of Huang Jing's personal artistic creativity but also reflects the City University of Macau's emphasis on nurturing innovative talents with a traditional cultural background. It highlights the university's active role in promoting the inheritance and development of China's outstanding traditional culture.
