On 5 December, the Second Working Meeting of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area Music Education and Arts Development Alliance was held at the Xinghai Concert Hall of Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou. As member institutions of the Alliance, our faculty's Music Programme and the Macau Urban Music Research Center were represented at the meeting by Prof. Dai Dingcheng, Director of the Research Center. The meeting was hosted by Xinghai Conservatory of Music under the guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. Alliance members include numerous universities in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao region, such as Xinghai Conservatory of Music, South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Shenzhen University, Beijing Normal University–Hong Kong Baptist University United International College, Lingnan Normal University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), The Education University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, City University of Macau, and Macao Polytechnic University—as well as major performance venues and artistic institutions including Guangzhou Opera House, Xinghai Concert Hall, Shenzhen Concert Hall, Poly Theatres, Dongguan Yulan Grand Theatre, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra Group, Guangdong National Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, and Macao Chinese Orchestra.
The meeting centred on the theme "Regional Synergy, Innovative Integration, and Technology Empowerment", and featured extensive and in-depth exchanges among Alliance members. As the representative of the Macao region, Prof. Dai shared insights on music development and artistic innovation in the Greater Bay Area, highlighting Macau's unique musical landscape shaped by the westward transmission of Western music and the southward spread of Chinese traditional music. He also introduced the development of CityU's Doctor of Music programme and the work of the Macau Urban Music Research Centre.
Looking ahead, our Music Programme and the Macau Urban Music Research Centre will continue to leverage their disciplinary strengths and regional advantages to further enhance exchanges and collaboration with partner institutions across the Greater Bay Area. They will actively contribute to building an integrated collaborative model for music research, cultural heritage preservation, and talent cultivation throughout the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao region.
