Recently, the winners of the 2nd “China·Strait” Wuyi Bamboo Industry International Industrial Design Award (WBIDA) were officially announced. Weng Jiancheng from City University of Macau, undergraduate student of design and art in 2022 of the Faculty of Innovation and Design, won the Silver Award of the South China Competition and the National Final Bronze Award for his work “Bamboo Lantern”, demonstrating the excellent educational achievements of the faculty in the field of integration of innovation and design and industry.

Inspired by the traditional bamboo weaving technique, Weng Jiancheng's design “Bamboo Lantern” skillfully combines modern industrial design concepts and eco-friendly technology to create a bamboo lamp with both aesthetic value and practical functions. The design not only highlights the natural texture and sustainable characteristics of bamboo, but also conveys the beauty of Chinese culture through the effect of light and shadow.

I am very honored to win the second “China·Strait” Wuyi Bamboo Industry International Industrial Design Award, this award is not only an unexpected pleasure for me, but also enhances my confidence in exploring the road of design.

I would like to express my gratitude to Shi Hong-Chun for her supervision, valuable advice on my design, the strict requirements for me to keep revising and improving, and the support and encouragement she has given me to make this competition a fruitful one.
