City University Arts (Musicology) Doctoral Program Assists Neighborhood Association in Hosting "Youth Innovation & Senior Legacy" Intergenerational Harmony Gala

On April 26, the Musicology doctoral program of City University's Faculty of Innovative and Design successfully supported the Civic Education Center of Macau Federation of Neighborhood Associations in organizing the "Youth Innovation & Senior Legacy" Intergenerational Harmony Gala at the Federation's Art Journey Center.

The gala featured diverse performances, with the Musicology doctoral program contributing two exceptional pieces: the female duet "Shi Tan Jia Pin (Ten Laments of Poverty)" and the Yangqin solo "Han Tian Lei (Thunder in Drought)". The duet, originally adapted from the traditional Xianshui folk song "Ten Laments of Poverty" by 2023 doctoral candidate Wen Hui, premiered at the 2024 "Macau Soundscapes" experimental music concert to significant acclaim. Its recent performance particularly resonated with elderly attendees, who praised its familiar yet artistically refined melody. The Yangqin rendition of the iconic Cantonese musical piece "Thunder in Drought" also received enthusiastic applause.

Beyond their artistic contributions, doctoral students actively participated in event coordination – providing technical guidance for choral programs and serving as emcees during the gala. Though voluntary, their dedication earned the program formal recognition from organizers, including certificates of appreciation and commemorative gifts.

Distinguished attendees included Vice Chairperson Kong Fanqing of the University Council and Professor Dai Dingcheng, Director of the Musicology Doctoral Program. Contributing doctoral students included Gao Shuo, Wu Lantao, Wen Hui, Shen Yutian, and Peng Jingyao.
