"Art Without Boundaries" - FIAD Organized The Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Graduation Exhibition of Master of Arts Students in 2025

The Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Graduation Exhibition of Master of Arts Students in 2025 (also part of the 10th Anniversary Celebration Series of the Faculty of Innovation and Design) officially opened on April 22 at the university’s Cultural Centre Exhibition Hall. The exhibition features 48 Chinese painting and calligraphy works created by 48 graduating students from the 2023 cohort.

Distinguished guests attending the opening ceremony included Ms. Sherry Sham, Director of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Chan U Wai, Head of the Student Department of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government; Mr. Wu Choi Kun, Vice Chairman of the University Council; Professor Chan Chun Pat, Associate Vice Rector; and Associate Professor Wang Boxun, Executive Vice Dean of the Faculty of Innovation and Design.

In his speech, Vice Chairman Wu Choi Kun expressed sincere gratitude and warm welcome to all attendees. He emphasized that the CityU will continue its educational philosophy that integrates theoretical knowledge with artistic practice, combines professional and holistic education, and balances foundational skills with innovation. The goal is to cultivate art professionals with a solid academic foundation, well-rounded knowledge, aesthetic appreciation, research competence, and a forward-looking artistic vision.

On behalf of the 2023 cohort, student representative He Zechen expressed heartfelt thanks to the faculty. Through courses such as Chinese Art History and Western Art History, students deepened their understanding of how different civilizations pursue beauty. In the process of intercultural exchange, they rediscovered the value of traditional art. Graduation, he noted, is not an end, but a new beginning filled with both questions and passion. Art is a means to express our understanding of the world, and the nurturing provided by the university will continue to guide future creative paths. This exhibition stands not only as a testament to youthful dedication but also as a heartfelt tribute to their alma mater, bearing the flame of tradition and innovation alike.

The exhibition is on display from April 22 to April 28, 2025, at the Cultural Centre Exhibition Hall of the CityU. Also in attendance at the opening were Program Director Ren Yujie, Associate Professors Xie Shengming and Liu Haiping, as well as students from the Master of Arts program.
