Professor You So-huang from Taiwan Academy of Opera gave a lecture at City University of Macao

At the invitation of the Doctoral Program in Musicology of the Faculty of Innovation and Design of City University of Macau (CityU), Professor You Su-huang of the Academy of Opera in Taiwan recently gave a lecture on the topic of “Taiwanese Opera: The Musical Evolution of Taiwanese Opera: From ‘xiaoxi’ to ‘daxi’”, which was moderated by the head of the Doctoral Program in Musicology of the School, Professor Dai Ding-cheng, with the Doctoral Program students and teachers and students of CityU in and out of the university listening to the lecture in the same hall.

The lecture started from the background of Taiwanese Opera, its language, embryonic form, musical core, performance style, singing form, song form, and performance art features, etc. Prof. You gave an in-depth explanation of Taiwanese Opera in an easy-to-understand tone, and combined the precious audio and music score data to give a detailed explanation, which made the scene atmosphere relaxing yet not losing the rigor.

The seminar also included an exchange session where teachers and students were eager to ask questions. Prof. Dai believed that the lecture was full of exciting content, and that the study of the Taiwanese Opera embodied the scholar's sense of academic responsibility towards traditional culture and local music culture.
