Associate Professor Wang Pohsun, Executive Associate Dean of the School of Innovation and Design at City University of Macau, delivered a series of lectures from March 6 to 8, 2025 at three institutions: the College of Forestry and Landscape Architecture at South China Agricultural University, the He Xiangning School of Art and Design at Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering, and the Academy of Fine Arts at Guangzhou Technical University of Technology. These lectures presented research findings from the FDCT-funded project (Macao SAR Science and Technology Development Fund) titled "Eye-Tracking Environmental Perception Analysis for Evaluating Future Urban Experience Satisfaction through Metaverse Construction: Optimization Research on Macao's Historic Center."
The lectures covered three key aspects:
1. Acquisition of eye-tracking characteristic data
2. In-depth analysis of Macao's Historic Center
3. Applications in tourism/leisure industries and urban landscape enhancement
Building upon prior research, the project introduces metaverse technology to envision optimized urban experiences. Through virtual reality, the public can interact with enhanced versions of Macao's historic districts, demonstrating how research outcomes can foster sustainable development of cultural tourism environments.
Notably, Prof. Wang's integration of VR technology with Macao's historic urban spaces earned him the 2024 National Arts Fund’s Artistic Creation Talent Training recognition, exemplifying higher education's dual mission in advancing research and cultivating talent.
Dr. Lai Yafeng, a graduate of the Design Doctoral Program, shared her three-year academic journey in Macao, detailing experiences from coursework to research participation. She encouraged mainland postgraduate students to pursue studies in Macao for its unique international perspectives, interdisciplinary opportunities, and potential to contribute professional design expertise to societal development.
The lecture series not only highlighted Macao's distinctive cultural tourism features but also strengthened academic exchanges between Macao and mainland institutions.
