CityU Arts PhD students’ academic papers selected for the IV Congresso Internacional “Diálogos Interculturais Portugal-China”


The IV Congresso Internacional “Diálogos Interculturais Portugal-China” will be held from April 22 to 23, 2025 at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. Four PhD students of the Faculty of Innovation and Design of the City University of Macau under the supervision of Prof. Dai Dingcheng from the Program of Arts (Musicology), including Shen Yutian, Xue Yanfang, Wang Haitao and Zhang Yunlong from the 2023 and 2024 doctoral programs, were invited to participate in the conference, as their papers have passed the review of the conference, and they respectively researched on the civilization mutual identification and exchange and integration of the Portugal-China music cultures from different aspects and multiple dimensions.

 

The core theme of the conference is “Portugal-China Dialogue”, which is centered on the Iniciativa “uma faixa, uma rota”; Diálogos entre Línguas: Literatura, Tradução e Ensino; História, Cultura e Turismo and Diálogos entre Artes. The conference will start with four topics, exploring key issues and cutting-edge theories in the world's human civilizations.

 

Shen Yutian's study Intercultural Music Exchange and Integration in Urban Contexts--Cultural Inspiration of Macau Festival da Lusofonia, which reveals intercultural music exchange and integration in urban contexts through the ethnic interactions of Macau's annual carnivals. Xue Yanfang's study Acoustic and musical analysis of Doming Lam's ethnic symphonic Insect World: Introduction to the Chinese characteristics of the ethnic instrumental symphony, through acoustic and musical technical analysis to explore the ethnic instrumental symphonic Chinese characteristics of Lam's ethnic symphonic work. Wang Haitao's study Exploring the Literary Characteristics of Urban Musicology in Macao --Focusing on the Development of Disciplinary Systems, based on the theory of discipline system construction to explain the characteristics of urban musicology in Macao. Zhang Yunlong's study  Discussion on Chinese-Portuguese musical cooperation--Taking the Macao Chinese Orchestra and singers from Portuguese-speaking countries as examples, focuses on the musical dialogues formed under the Chinese-Portuguese cooperation.

 

As a historical and cultural area where Chinese and Portuguese cultures have exchanged and learned from each other, Macau's unique geographic advantage and system of mutual recognition of civilizations provide an important research paradigm for cross-cultural communication. This conference brings together experts and scholars from China and Portugal, aiming to build a platform for cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary academic exchanges to promote the integration and development of art and culture. In addition, CityU's PhD students in Arts will continue to assist to the area of Macau's urban music culture.
