Student from City University of Macau Faculty of Innovative Design Wins National Third Prize at 2024 Macau Cultural and Creative Design Competition


Macau – The 2024 Macau Cultural and Creative Design Competition recently concluded with outstanding results. Luo Siyu, a student from the Faculty of Innovative Design at the City University of Macau, won the National First Prize with her work "Brand VI Design for 'Macau Gifts'" and was awarded under the Macao Cultural Tourism Track / Category A: Graphic Design. Another student, Jin Dian, received the National Third Prize for her work "Macau Impression: Visual Identity Design". Both projects were guided by Associate Professor Ren Yujie from the same faculty.

 

Competition Background:

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region and related institutions, the Macau Cultural and Creative Design Competition is an international event aimed at promoting the development of the cultural and creative industries and fostering deeper integration between design and culture. The competition attracts outstanding designers worldwide and holds significant influence within the industry. This year’s edition introduced the Macao Cultural Tourism Track, encouraging participants to create works centered on Macau’s cultural identity to further drive innovation in the region’s cultural tourism sector. 

 

About Luo Siyu's Work:
"Brand VI Design for 'Macau Gifts'" focuses on Macau's multicultural core and creates a visual brand system that combines traditional heritage with contemporary fashion. It uses the collision of Chinese and Western aesthetics to connect historical symbols with modern minimalism, refining Macau's traditional and fashionable colorful floral bricks to add international visual impact. The graphic creativity highlights Macau's cultural tourism prosperity and the sincerity of creative brands.

About  Jin Dian's  the Work:

"Macau Impression: Visual Identity Design"showcases Macau’s historical heritage and modern vitality through a unique visual language. By blending traditional elements with contemporary design concepts, the work highlights Macau’s distinct charm as a convergence point of Eastern and Western cultures. It not only demonstrates exceptional creativity and professionalism but also reflects the diversity and inclusivity of Macau’s cultural tourism industry.

As a student of the Faculty of Innovative Design at City University of Macau, I view this honor as encouragement for my exploration in the field of cultural and creative brand design.


The work focuses on refining local cultural characteristics to create a Macau-recognizable cultural and creative brand image. I am deeply grateful to Associate Professor Ren Yujie for her patient guidance during the creation process, from concept development to visual presentation, which laid a solid foundation for the work with her professional advice.
