The Faculty of Innovation and Design of City University of Macau hosted a joint summer workshop from August 27 to 28 to discuss teaching and research experience in urban planning and design, with the collaboration with the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Zhejiang University. The workshop was held at the Taipa Campus of City University of Macau. Dr. Wang Po-Hsun, executive vice dean of the Faculty of Innovation and Design of City University of Macau, Dr. Zhou Long, associate dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Hsieh Chun-Ming, director of the master's and doctoral degree program in Urban Planning and Design, Dr. Xing Yalong, the former director of the master's and doctoral degree program in Urban Planning and Design, and Dr. Ren Yujie, the former director of the undergraduate program of Design and Art, attended the workshop and introduced the Faculty of Innovation and Design and the relative programs.
Professor Han Haoying, Associate Professor Zhou Long, Associate Professor Hsieh Chun-Ming, Assistant Professor Yan Xiaoyi, Assistant Professor Li Bin, Assistant Professor Yang Huajie, and Assistant Professor Yan Yu from City University of Macau, Professor Wang Hui and Associate Professor Qi Weifeng from Zhejiang University, and City University of Macau’s part-time doctoral supervisor, Associate Professor Xiao Zuopeng from Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), gave presentations and shared their experience in teaching and research in the workshop.
Through open and in-depth discussions, the representatives in the seminar believed that with the urbanization of China and the whole world developing to a high level, changes in the social environment in East Asia, and the rapid advancement of big data, artificial intelligence and other technologies, the importance of urban planning and design’s working processes and methods are undergoing major shifts. Therefore, the training system of urban planning and design courses must strengthen the core area and expand to the areas of relative disciplines. The form of teaching should be transformed in the direction of digitalization, intelligence, cross-combination, and innovation; the form of research should emphasize the application of international cutting-edge technological methods, and combine different fields such as urban research, urban planning, and urban management to generate a series of research findings combining scientific and practical approaches.
The seminar also had preliminary discussions on future teaching and research cooperation in urban planning and design disciplines between City University of Macau and Zhejiang University.
More than 40 students from the College of Civil Engineeringand Architecture of Zhejiang University and the Faculty of Innovation and Design of City University of Macau participated in this workshop.
