Our Faculty Attends ICHEC 2025 in Singapore and Successfully Secures Hosting Rights for ICHEC 2026

From 22–23 November 2025, a delegation from City University of Macau, led by Executive Associate Dean Po-Hsun Wang , together with Assistant Professor Jing Liu, Programme Director of the Master of Design programme, and Assistant Professor Ni Kang, attended the International Conference on Human-Engaged Computing (ICHEC 2025) held at Singapore Management University (SMU).

ICHEC is a flagship international conference in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), focusing on how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies can deepen human engagement with computing. The event brings together scholars from around the world to explore the societal impact and innovative applications of these technologies. This year's conference attracted more than 160 experts and scholars.

On 22 November, the delegation attended the grand opening ceremony and participated in various conference activities. ICHEC 2025 featured diverse sessions including paper presentations, an art gallery, workshops, poster sessions, two panel discussions, and two distinguished keynote speakers:

  • Prof. Karrie Karahalios (MIT Media Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA)

  • Associate Prof. Koji Yatani (School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo, Japan)

The two keynote speakers delivered cutting-edge talks on algorithmic auditing of social media platforms and advanced intelligent interaction systems, sparking lively discussions among attendees.

On the same day, the delegation held a meeting with the ICHEC 2025 Committee to discuss future development of the conference series.  ICHEC 2026 will be organised by City University of Macau, with the Faculty of Innovation and Design and the Faculty of Data Science serving as co-hosts.

At the closing ceremony on 23 November, the delegation formally received the conference flag from the current organiser. Prof. Zhou Wanlei, Vice Rector of CityU, delivered a video welcome address. Associate Professor Po-Hsun Wang then introduced the outstanding academic environment and interdisciplinary strengths of CityU, highlighted Macau's unique charm as an international city where Eastern and Western cultures converge, and extended a warm invitation to the global community: “Welcome to Macau – let us together open up a new page of human-engaged computing!”

This participation not only deepened our university's international collaboration but also injected fresh vitality into the ICHEC conference series. Upon returning, the delegation will actively prepare for the next year conference and looks forward to welcoming scholars from around the world to Macau in 2026.
