Arts in Design Programmer of City University of Macau Visited The Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre



Sophie Leong, Lecturer of Arts in Design Programmer of City University of Macau, visited The Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre together with students of fiber art on 8 November. The delegation appreciated the warm hospitality given by the Centre manager Nichole and her co-workers. In this visit, they discussed about practical experience of creative design techniques in depth. Through the explanation from tutors in the centre for different equipment, students have a better understanding for different creative techniques. Digital fabric printing, laser fabric cutting, embroidery machines attracted great interest and attention of students and tutors. Students also saw with their own eyes how their own scarft design printed with digital fabric printing machine. This experience-sharing made students learned a lot from this visit.
 
 
The Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre is a non-profit organization jointly established by the Macau Government and the private sector. The centre is located in the industrial zone in Macao, covering an area of over ten thousand square feet. Its service target is the local garment industry for it occupies approximately 80% of exports from Macao. It provides a focal point for garment training, information and technology and a variety of services. Equipment for public use including computerized embroidery sample making service, laser Fabric cutting, digital fabric printing, use of garment equipment and plastic template production.
 
 
In addition to production services, Nichole claimed that whether students or designers, and even business people demand for design course in Macau. Therefore, the center provide wide range and high quality training courses to aim at different student needs. In recent years, due to the fast development of the City University of Macau, there are greater opportunities and potential for design cooperation with The Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre, to enhance the teaching and research abilities in higher education study in Macao.
 
 
Sophie claimed that the centre has a plenty of international experience and teaching staffs, specially fostering excellent students and designers. Arts in Design course attaches great importance to students 'multidisciplinary design abilities, this visit interact with each other in terms of design thinking and techniques. Also, the center offer excellent modern facilities, books, video tapes and fabric samples, fashion magazines, online fashion platform (WGSN) and an online color platform (Pantone View), to help designers and students to gain latest information to enhance the design level.
