Faculty of Urban Management and Studies and Plymouth University, UK successfully held the symposium and workshop for Coastal City Planning and Design in Macau



Recently, our Faculty of Urban Management and Studies and Plymouth University of UK (more than 30 lecturers and students) jointly organized the "Macao Coastal City Planning and Design" workshop and symposiums. These events included design workshop, expert’s symposiums, and outcome presentations. The design workshop was hold by Prof. Brown, Professor Yao Wu. Also, Prof. Rui Leao, Chairman of CIAPL, and Assistant Professor Francisco Vizeu Pinherio, University of St. Joseph, Macau


During the field trips, both lecturers and students from Macau and UK visited the local government and organizations such as Cultural Affairs Bureau, Macau Government Tourist Office and the Macao Institute of Architects. In addition, they hold lectures on Cultural Heritage Conservation and Coastal Urban Planning in order to understand the local government and the current situation and needs of urban development in Macao, and to provide more supports for further research and design. Besides, many experts discussed with our lecturers who expertized in Art Design, and Urban Planning and Design, and our MA and phD students to improve teaching and many suggestions for research and methods.

 

In the afternoon of 12th September, the results of Planning and Design Workshop were presented in our school. The symposium was hold by Professor Yao Wu (Executive Vice Dean of Faculty of Urban Management and Studies), and Mr. Zhang Shu Guang (President of the City University of Macau) celebrated the symposium successfully. Four experts made a presentation in the symposium, including Prof. Robert Brown (the Department of Architecture, Plymouth, UK), Professor Hendrik Tieben (Department of Architecture, The Chinese University of Hong Kong), Mr. Roger Wu, the RIBA Hong Kong Chapter, and Dr. Thomas Dennial (Director of Architecture, St. Joseph's, Macau). Furthermore, several lecturers of our Faculty of Urban Management and Studies in City University of Macau participated in the symposium, including Yi-Chun Lin, Pu-Hsun Wang, Yalong Xing, Long Zhou, and Xiaoyi Yan.


The results of workshop and symposiums are excellent, so the experts suggested that these activities could be regularly hold. Also, the results of studies will be continually updated, and make efforts on integrating research and needs of social development regarding Coastal City Planning and Design in Macau in order to provide suggestions and prospects for the society in Macao.
