Research and publications

1. Academic achievements

He is the Principal investigator of over ten National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) projects, including the National Library of Philosophy and Social Science Achievements, the Major NSSFC Project, and the NSSFC Chinese Literature Translation and Publishing Project.

He has published over one hundred papers, including multiple A&HCI-indexed articles, and authored over fifty publications, such as the 12-volume Collection of Chinese Art Archaeology Documents.

He is the winner of more than ten provincial and ministerial awards, including the second prize for the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Achievement Award and the first prize of the Jiangsu Province Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award.

Some of his former students have become Lead Chief Investigators of major NSSFC  projects and some were awarded the NSSFC Excellent Doctoral Dissertations.

• ‘Religious Beliefs and Iconographical Systems of Han Dynasty Tomb Murals’, funded by the NSSFC Post-Grant Project 2011 (Project Number: 11FZJ001).
• Multi-volume Chinese Religious Art, a major project funded by the NSSFC 2017 (Project Number: 17ZDA237).
• ‘Chinese Religious Art Archaeology Chronology Achievement Library’, included in the 2022 National Library of Philosophy and Social Science Achievements (Approval Number: 22KYS004).

Awarded First Prize in the 13th Jiangsu Province Philosophy and Social Sciences Awards 2014 for Religious Beliefs and Iconographical Systems in Han Dynasty Tomb Murals.

Awarded Second Prize in the Nineth Outstanding Achievement Awards in Scientific Research (Humanities and Social Sciences) for Higher Education Institutions 2024 for Historical Study of Chinese Tomb Mural Paintings (Zhongguo mushi bihua shilun 中國墓室壁畫史論).
