Our 34 first-year master's students in Design, followed with Assistant Professor NI Kang, visited the Macau Museum of Art exhibition: "The Harmony of Painting – The ‘Chinnery School’ Exhibition" on 13th Sep. 2024. This exhibition, marking the 250th anniversary of British painter George Chinnery (1774–1852), comprehensively presented the customs and changes of 19th-century Macau, as well as the exchange and fusion of Eastern and Western cultures.
Under the guidance of two experienced museum docents, the design master's students delved into the exhibition content, engaging in detailed learning and interaction in small groups. This visit not only helped the new students quickly grasp the historical and cultural context of Macau but also laid a solid foundation for their study of design history. The event reflects our teaching philosophy of integrating theory with practice and has enhanced our collaboration with the museum, opening a new chapter in exploring more cross-disciplinary collaborations and practical activities.
