Art Major Teachers and Students from the Faculty of Innovation and Design visited the "Ung Choi Kun Double Celebration Calligraphy Exhibition"

On September 2, 2024, 30 Art major postgraduate and doctoral students from the Faculty of Innovative and Design at the City University of Macau, under the guidance of Executive Associate Dean Po-Hsun WANG and Assistant Professor Wang ZiWei, visited the "Ung Choi Kun Double Celebration Calligraphy Exhibition" filled with profound patriotic sentiments. Mr. Ung Choi Kun is the President of the Macau Wisdom Humanities and Governance Association, Vice Chairman of the University Council of City University of Macau, and Honorary President of the Macau Calligraphy Academy. In recent years, he has held many personal calligraphy exhibitions using calligraphy combined with current affairs and traditional and innovative methods to promote Chinese traditional culture and tell Chinese stories through calligraphy, conveying patriotic and Macau spirit, and devoting himself to researching the Mawangdui bamboo slips, innovating and creating vigorous and natural calligraphic styles.

The exhibition pays attention to the combination of content and form, and all calligraphy hanging scroll works are accompanied by pictures related to the content of the works. The pictures and calligraphy complement each other and express patriotic sentiments, interpret the charm of Macau, and inherit Chinese spirit in a pictorial and vivid way. During the visit, Mr. Ung Choi Kun introduced each work in detail according to the exhibition structure and showed calligraphy and cultural creative products, emphasizing that promoting Chinese culture should also be done through various forms, and that doing anything should "learn from one thing and apply it to three others" in order to stimulate endless vitality.

At the end of the visit, the students actively asked questions and interacted, and the atmosphere was lively. Many students expressed their excitement at being moved by the strong patriotic sentiments of the works, and also raised questions about their artistic creation and academic studies. Mr. Ung answered their questions patiently and guided them out of their confusion. In the end, he encouraged the students to concentrate on their studies, saying that“All things in their being are good for something”, and urging them to be bold in climbing to new heights in the realm of knowledge. There was continuous applause and a lively atmosphere on site.
